Martin Connell
Martin Connell completed the Race Across Scotland Ultra organised by GB Ultras in under 100 hours an excellent achievement. Martin's report "Race across Scotland 212 miles in 100 hours. I have NO IDEA how but I finished. My subconscious must know something and told my body just enough to keep going. A beautiful race of pain that just wouldn't stop testing you - get too cocky or push too hard - Out by the next checkpoint. I came close 2-3 times and even during the last 6 hours to missing the 100 hour target. A gruesome pretty puzzle box. It was an Epic. Great Britain doesn't have many races of this huge scale. Yes it has the Spine, Dragons back, Lakeland but not one that just a "normal" runner can enter easily. (Yes I am a normal runner). It will take a few days/ weeks for me to process what happened (and to recover).. full blog coming later. The event took us not just on a huge physical 200+ mile trip but also an emotional one. I cried many times, so sleep deprived. It really was that EPIC. Huge vistas, landscapes, all types of weather in each day. Think Lord of the Rings but for a runner. My body is definitely not a temple - but it does have great foundations the Connell family quads and calves (thanks mum and dad)... Keep feeding the legs and they'll run for you - especially for a good cause through the pain barrier. Wayne RD on the finish line worried about the size of your feet... Ermmm confused look from me they are this BIG normally? Okay ankles swollen a bit. Had to be able to suffer for 100 hours, take relentless pain in nearly every step with stones hitting your feet, cover a tough 20-27 mile section.. then click fingers a few minutes or an hour later ready to go again. Just plain old willpower. Positive thinking got me through in the end, team work with friends crews and my wife in later stages. Okay positive thinking and a lot of swearing. You can still sponsor me at https://wirralanimalsanctuary.charitycheckout.co.uk/cf/Martin-Races-Coast-to-Coast I would love you to as Wirral Animal Sanctuary do a fab job around the North West UK. 20+ blisters and counting. One even got a name it was that big. Ran more than 130 miles with the lovely Louise Tidbury and last 50-60 with Katy Mac. Some amazing memories."
