The Lakes Four Passes was a 23 mile trail race in the Cumbrian Fells with the route taking in four of the Lake Districts most scenic valleys and their adjoining passes. The route was circular route and started and finished at Rosthwaite Village Hall in Borrowdale, at the southern end of Derwent Water. The first pass was Sty Head Tarn situated between the Scafell Massif and Great Gable before the race dropped down to Wasdale with Cumbria's deepest lake. The second which was Black Sail Pass & the third Scarth Gap, which happened to be the easiest ascent of the day & gave views of Haystacks, Wainwright's resting place to the right. The fourth and final pass was an old miners path and was the hardest of the day to the top of Honister's Pass before returning down to the village hall. Caet Cuthbert was amongst the 112 strong field and said "Fab race, but very tough. Took me 6hrs 40 to finish".
