Borders League



Race 1 - Capenhurst - 11/10/2015 - Seniors


Ellesmere Port RC hosted the first race of the 2015-2016 Borders League season at Capenhurst. The 2 lap course was measured to make it exactly 5 miles. The largest ever field of 367 runners took part. The men's team got back to winning ways with a score of 494 points. The ladies finished in 3rd place in the second division. Men's counters were Greg Jones (14th), Richard Webster (20th), Connor McArdle (21st), Joe Boden (22nd), Rob Pearse (28th), Tony Barbat (49th), Colin Palmer (72nd), Ian Wilson (80th), Mike Kelly (91st) and Nick Holt (97th). The lady counters were Jayne Treanor (16th), Jess McKInlay (34th) and Mary Rees (41st).

Race 2 - Birkenhead Park - 08/11/2015 - Seniors


Wallasey AC had their highest ever number of runners (50) in a Borders league race at the second fixture in Birkenhead Park. There was also a record attendance for the Borders League with 370 runners completing the 4 lap circuit around the upper park. The ladies team fared best on the day with a victory in the second division and a sufficiently low score to propel them to the top of the division. Ladies counters were Sallie Holt (5th), Kim McEneany (22nd) and Mary Rees (26th). The ladies team totalled an impressive 22 runners. The men scored considerably better than the first race but succumbed to a strong Wirral AC side and were also knocked off the top of the table. Counters for the men were Greg Jones (12th), Rich Webster (13th), Joe Boden (15th), Connor McArdle (16th), Pete Bird (26th), Mike Green (30th), Colin Palmer (39th), Tony Barbat (50th), Rob Pearse (54th) and Bryan Stevenson (63rd). The race was organised by the club and was superbly marshalled by club members.

Race 3 - Caernarfon - 06/12/2015 - Seniors


Wallasey AC made the long trip to Caernarfon for the third Borders League fixture. The team was represented by 25 runners. Both teams finished third on the day with counters for the ladies being Kim McEneany (17th), Mary Rees (25th) and Vicky Kehoe (51st). The men celebrated 2 top 10 finishers with Joe Boden (5th) and Greg Jones (6th) having very strong runs. The other counters were Connor McArdle (14th), Mike Green (18th), Tony Barbat (23rd), Colin Palmer (32nd), Mike Kelly (74th), Jack Poland (86th), Keith Simpson (88th) and Phil Dabner (99th). Rich Webster and Mary Rees lead their age categories.

Race 4 - Pensarn - 24/01/2016 - Seniors


334 runners completed the fourth fixture in the Borders league series on a windy 5 mile course at Pensarn. Wallasey AC had 31 runners who helped the men's team finish second and the ladies third. The ladies maintained their position at the top of the second division but face a strong challenge from Prestatyn and Abergele. The ladies counters were Kim McEneany (26th), Mary Rees (30th) and Zoe Pearse (39th). The men had 10 runners in the first 67 finishers with 8 of them getting under 30 minutes. Counters were Greg Jones (11th), Joe Boden (13th), Mike Green (22nd), Connor McArdle (23rd), Richard Webster (25th), Rob Pearse (28th), debutant Neil Bullock (37th), John Armstrong (40th), Colin Palmer (50th) and Bryan Stevenson (67th).

Race 5 - Tattenhall - 20/03/2016 - Seniors


Tattenhall was bathed in spring sunshine for the fifth Borders League fixture. Wallasey AC had 41 runners taking part, of which 16 were ladies and the women won the second division race on the day. They are now in first overall and face stiff competition for the title from Prestatyn and Abergele. The counters for the ladies were Sallie Holt (7th), Mary Rees (21st) and Helen-Anne Stansfield (22nd). The men finished second on the day and have fallen further behind leaders Wirral AC. The male counters were Greg Jones (12th), Rich Webster (18th), Joe Boden (20th), Mike Green (22nd), Rob Pearse (23rd), Neil Bullock (24th), Mike Kelly (31st), John Armstrong (33rd), Colin Palmer (38th) and Bryan Stevenson (58th).

Race 6 - Mold - 17/04/2016 - Seniors


Wallasey AC had 24 men and 10 ladies at the penultimate borders league fixture at Mold. On a sunny spring day the men won the race with their lowest points score of the season of 255. This allowed them to reduce Wirral A.C.'s lead by 89 points to 232. The ladies finished second on the day and are now in a dead heat with Prestatyn for the second division title. The male counters were Joe Boden (8th), Greg Jones (9th), Phil Walton (14th), Rich Webster (19th), Connor McArdle (21st), Rob Pearse (27th), Peter Bird (33rd), Mike Green (38th), Bryan Stevenson (40th) and Colin Palmer (46th). For the ladies Helen Anne Stansfield (16th), Mary Rees (29th) and Zoe Pearse (34th) Counted. Mary Rees and Tony Barbat lead their age categories.

Race 7 - Prestatyn - 27/04/2016 - Seniors


14 women and 24 men represented the club at the final Borders League at Prestatyn. The ladies were locked in a battle at the top with the hosts' ladies team. Wallasey came out on top by 12 points and secured the division two title and with it promotion to the top division. Counting for the ladies were Sallie Holt (5th), Helen Anne Stansfield (13th), and Zoe Pearse (19th). The men finished third on the day and were runners up behind Wirral A.C. Male counters were Greg Jones (9th), Connor McArdle (13th), Rich Webster (23rd), Bryan Stevenson (26th), Mike Kelly (38th), Pete Bird (47th), Nick Holt (57th), Colin Palmer (58th), Tony Barbat (64th) and Jack Poland (74th). Individual prize winners were Greg Jones 5th, Joe Boden 6th and Connor McArdle 8th - all senior men. Rob Pearse 6th V40, Rich Webster 2nd V45, Colin Palmer 2nd V50, Tony Barbat 1st V55, Helen-Anne Stansfield 6th senior women and Mary Rees 1st V60.

Liverpool & District XC Union



Race 1 - Beacon Park - 24/10/2015 - Seniors


The first cross country of the new season took place at a sunny Beacon Park. The temperatures reached double figures and there was much less mud than the previous year. Wallasey AC had 20 runners and the team finished the day in fourth place. The counters were Connor McArdle (19), Greg Jones (23rd), Jez Fellick (35th), Tony Barbat (45th), Colin Palmer (46th) and Mike Kelly (51st).

Race 2 - Sefton Park - 28/11/2015 - Seniors


The second race of the Liverpool & District Cross Country Union took place at Sefton Park. The race is incorporated into the European cross country championships. Rain in the week made the going soft.The team finished in fifth place on the day, counters were Connor McArdle (27th), Greg Jones (32nd), Mike Green (36th), Rob Pearse (50th), John Armstrong (57th) and Jez Fellick (61st). Wallasey AC had 31 runners complete the course.

Race 3 - Stadt Moers - 12/12/2015 - Seniors


Runners encountered a very wet Stadt Moers Park in Whiston, for the final cross country race of the Liverpool & District Cross Country Union league season. The course at Stadt Moers is challenging in good weather but heavy rain before the race left plenty of mud and surface water. The addition of some tarmac paths led to the course being rerouted. The team ran well on the day, and with some great packing, managed to finish in second place and with some of the other clubs being unable to close teams, Wallasey AC finished third overall in the League. Counters on the day were Connor McArdle (8th), Greg Jones (12th), Joe Boden (14th), Mike Green (17th), Rob Pearse (18th) and John Armstrong (19th).

Championships - Clarkes Garden - 07/02/2016 - Seniors


Bright sunshine welcomed the Wallasey AC athletes at the Liverpool and District Cross Country Championships in Clarkes Garden. The wind had blown over a tree at the point the runners cross when going into or returning from the small field. The course was changed to avoid the obstacle and the runners ran 4 laps without the field. The senior team recorded fifth place with Connor McArdle (14th), Mike Green (24th), Greg Jones (26th), Rob Pearse (30th), Mike Kelly (51st), and Keith Simpson (56th) all counting. The race also doubled as the club individual cross country championships, wins were recorded by Connor McArdle and Sallie Holt who both had strong runs. 16 men and 11 ladies represented the club.

Cross Country Championships



Merseyside - Arrowe Park - 09/01/2016 - Seniors


A muddy and wet Arrowe Park was host to the Merseyside County Cross Country Championships. The men finished fourth on the day. The men's counters were Connor McArdle(12th), Mike Green (23rd), Greg Jones (29th), Rob Pearse (31st), Jez Fellick (39th) and John Armstrong (42nd). The ladies finished 6th with Sallie Holt (11th), Mary Rees (28th), Zoe Pearse (30th) and Elaine Opara (34th) the counters. Mary Rees and Sallie Holt pikced up medals in their age categories, a gold for Mary and a silver for Sallie. Connor McArdle won a medal for highest finisher in unplaced team. A total of 28 runners competed for the club.

Northern - Witton Park, Blackburn - 30/01/2016 - Seniors


Wallasey AC headed to Witton Park in Blackburn for the Northern Cross Country Championships. The weather was not kind with wind, hail and rain making the mud and the infamous 'teaspoon' hill even more challenging. The 6 ladies set off first and Helen-Anne Stansfield led them home running well for 219th place, she was followed by Mary Rees (223rd), Sharon Lamont (288th) and Michelle Alty (289th). The ladies team position was 39th. 15 runners helped the men's team into 31st place, first home was Mike Green (219th) with Jez Fellick (243rd), Greg Jones (331st), Phil Cuthbert (344th), Phil Dabner (423rd) and Keith Simpson (428th) the other counters. Marshalls Bob and Anne Brimage and Jane and Neil Vick also braved the weather and ensured the race was a success.

National - Donington Park - 27/02/2016 - Senior Men


The Saucony English National Cross Country Championships took place at a new venue in Donington Park, Leicester. The women's race over 8km included mud and hills and a ploughed turnip field, the team finished in 76th place and were led home be Helen-Anne Stansfield who finished 437th, other counters were Mary Rees (458th), Sharon Lamont (594th) and Alison Engle (673rd). The men covered 12km and Connor McArdle was first to cross the line in 506th place, he was assisted in the scoring by Mike Green (570th), Greg Jones (690th), Jez Fellick (744th), Mike Kelly (822nd) and Phil Cuthbert (948th). The men finished in 62nd place.

Wirral Multi Terrain Series



Race 1 - Wirral Country Park - 01/09/2015 - Seniors


The Wirral Multi Terrain series for 2015 began at Wirral Country Park and on a beautifully sunny evening with great view of the Dee Estuary over 300 runners finished the 2 lap course. The men finished in second place and the ladies in fourth. Greg Jones (4th), Richard Webster (11th), Rob Pearse (14th), Mike Green (17th) and Tony Barbat (44th) counted. For the ladies it was Kim McEneany (6th), Mary Rees (21st) and Helen-Anne Stansfield (26th) who counted.

Race 2 - Royden Park - 08/09/2015 - Seniors


The second race of the Wirral Multi Terrain series took place at Royden Park. The men finished in second place thanks to counting performances from Greg Jones (6th), Rich Webster (11th), Rob Pearse (15th), Peter Bird (26th) and Matt Wilson (42nd). The ladies were seventh with Kim MEneany (11th), Jess McInlay (27th) and Elaine Opara counting.

Race 3 - Harrison Drive - 15/09/2015 - Seniors


Wallasey AC hosted the third race of the Wirral multi terrain series at Harrison Drive. On a sunny evening the race attracted 350 runners. The men finished in second place with Greg Jones (6th), Rich Webster (13th), Mike Green (25th), Jez Fellick (29th) and Peter Bird (35th). The ladies were 13th with Vicky Kehoe (33rd), Zoe Pearse (34th) and Helen-Anne Stansfield (37th) counting.

Race 4 - Arrowe Park - 22/09/2015 - Seniors


The concluding race of the Wirral Multi Terrain series took place at Arrowe Park. The men finished second on the night and overall, the ladies finished sixth on the night and overall. Counters for the men were Greg Jones (6th), Rob Pearse (13th), Rich Webster (16th), Peter Bird (25th) and Jez Fellick (28th). Ladies counters were Kim McEneany (7th), Zoe Pearse (27th) and Mary Rees (29th). Individual winners were Kim McEneany second female under 30, Greg Jones third male under 40, Rob Pearse second male over 40, Rich Webster second male over 45, Tony Barbat first male over 55 and Mike Griffiths third male over 60.

Christmas Handicap



Christmas Handicap - Wallasey Shore - 20/12/2015 - Seniors


Sam Treanor was first home and junior winner. Men's handicap winner was Mel Schless and first lady home was Louise Marsden. Fastest runners on the day with 14:18 was Greg Jones and for the ladies Sallie Holt 16:59.
