Borders League



Race 1 - Cheshire View - 09/11/2014 - Seniors


The Borders League season got underway at the Cheshire View club in Christleton. On a warm and sunny day a large field of 352 runners set off on the 5.75 mile circuit. The men's team fared well picking up third place with good packing of the 10 runners from position 28 to 76. The ladies finished in 7th place. Men's counters were Tony Barbat (28th), Mike Green (31st), Connor McArdle (32nd), John Armstrong (35th), Jez Fellick (39th), Bryan Stevenson (43rd), debutant Mike Kelly (63rd), Gary Goodall (64th), Martin Connell (69th) and Jamie Carragher (76th). The lady counters were debutant Mary Rees (39th), Julie Barbat (62nd), Louise Cooper (74th) and Lisa Carney (76th).

Race 2 - Tattenhall - 07/12/2014 - Seniors


The second race of the season took place at Tattenhall and on a sunny and breezy day Wallasey's men fared well. The team finished victorious with a score of just 257. This result leaves the men in first place overall. Great packing meant that all the first ten runners were in in just 53 places. Counters were Karl Pickstock (10th), Joe Boden (11th), Connor McArdle (15th), Rich Webster (19th), Greg Jones (20th), Tony Barbat (28th), Mike Green (29th), John Armstrong (33rd), Jez Fellick (39th) and Mike Kelly (53rd). The ladies finished in 6th place thanks to Sallie Holt (13th), Mary Rees (41st), Elaine Opara (46th) and Louise Cooper (62nd).

Race 3 - Birkenhead Park - 11/01/2015 - Seniors


The Wallasey AC men's team came out as victors in the third Borders League race at a blustery Birkenhead Park. The team finished with a score of just 279 and consolidated their place at the top of the league. Connor McArdle managed to finish in the top ten coming home in 8th place. Good packing meant that all the first ten runners were in in just 49 places. Other counters were Greg Jones (11th), Rich Webster (19th), John Thelwell (24th), John Armstrong (28th), Mike Green (31st), Tony Barbat (32nd), Rob Pearse (38th), Jez Fellick (39th) and Jamie Carragher (49th). The ladies finished in 7th place thanks to Jayne Treanor (20th), Mary Rees (44th), Julie Barbat (55th) and Sharon Lamont (60th). The race also marked Derek McArdle's 100th consecutive race for the club. A magnificent achievement starting in February 2009.

Race 4 - Prestatyn - 08/03/2015 - Seniors


The fourth race of the Borders League season took place on a new course in Prestatyn, because of work on the Nova Centre the race started in Ffrith Beach Park and proceeded along the promenade and consisted of 2 laps. Thanks to good packing, Wallasey AC men's team won the race in their best ever Borders League score of 170 points. The counters were Phil Walton (4th), John Thelwell (5th), Joe Boden (6th), Greg Jones (10th), Connor McArdle (11th), , Rob Pearse (20th), Mike Green (22nd), Tony Barbat (28th), Jamie Carragher (31st) and Bryan Stevenson (33rd). The ladies finished in 7th place with Sallie Holt (9th), Mary Rees (25th), Vicky Kehoe (45th) and Julie Barbat (51st) all counting.

Race 5 - Mold - 22/03/2015 - Seniors


Wallasey AC's men recorded their 3rd consecutive victory in the fifth Borders League race in Mold. On a sunny day in ideal running conditions the team had all ten runners in inside the first forty. The ladies finished 7th on the day. Counting for the men were Joe Boden (5th), Greg Jones (10th), Phil Walton (12th), Connor McArdle (14th), John Armstrong (24th), Mike Green (28th), Rob Pearse (33rd), Jamie Carragher (38th), Tony Barbat (39th) and Jez Fellick (40th). Counting for the ladies were Jess Lovell (31st), Elaine Opara (36th), debutant Zoe Pearse (41st) and Julie Barbat (46th). In with chances of individual medals are Connor McArdle and Greg Jones (senior men), Mike Green (V40), John Armstrong and Jez Fellick (V45), Colin Palmer (V50), Tony Barbat (V55), Nicci Davies (V55) and Mary Rees (V60).

Race 6 - Caernarfon - 12/04/2015 - Seniors


Due to strong winds the course at Caernarfon was reversed. Most runners performed negative splits as the altered route meant that the runners had to traverse the undulating part of the course into the wind and then at the 5k point had the wind to assist them on the second 5k. Wallasey AC's men triumphed again by 200 points and have one hand on the first division trophy. The ladies slightly improved to 6th place. Male counters were Greg Jones (7th), Connor McArdle (8th), Joe Boden (12th), Mike Green (16th), John Armstrong (20th), Richard Webster (23rd), Tony Barbat (29th), Colin Palmer (30th), Bryan Stevenson (53rd) and Mike Kelly (57th). Sallie Holt had a strong run leading the team home in 11th place, other lady counters were Mary Rees (25th), Sharon Lamont (41st) and Nicci Davies (43rd).

Race 7 - Wrexham - 22/04/2015 - Seniors


Wallasey AC men's team won the Borders League by nearly 900 points at the last race hel in Wrexham. The team finished second on the night which left them with 5 victories in the 7 race series. The counters for the men were Greg Jones (5th), Connor McArdle (10th), John Thelwell (14th), Richard Webster (22nd), John Armstrong (23rd), Tony Barbat (34th), Bryan Stevenson (35th), Mike Kelly (36th), Phil Dabner (79th) and Andy Rogerson (111th). Sallie Holt was first lady in 26th and she was backed up by Vicky Kehoe (39th), Mary Rees (42nd) and Sharon Lamont (50th). The ladies could not stave off relegation to the second division. The veterans team finished in second place. Individual medals went to Greg Jones 3rd senior male, Connor McArdle 5th senior male, Mike Kelly 10th senior male, Mike Green 3rd male V40, John Armstrong 2nd male V45, Tony Barbat 1st male V55, Nicci Davies 3rd female V55 and Mary Rees second female V60.

Liverpool & District XC Union



Race 1 - Beacon Park - 25/10/2014 - Seniors


Wallasey AC started the new cross country in the Liverpool and District Cross Country Union fixture at Beacon Park. On a sunny day without the usual mud the team fared well achieving fourth place. This was helped by some good packing with Greg Jones (9th) and Connor McArdle (10th) finishing in the top ten. The other counters were Jez Fellick (16th), Tony Barbat (26th), Mike Green (31st) and Phil Cuthbert (35th). 18 runners represented the club.

Race 2 - Sefton Park - 29/11/2014 - Seniors


The Sefton Park course was dry with hardly any mud for the second race of the Liverpool & District Cross Country Union season. The event also incorporated the European Cross Country Trials. Wallasey had 27 runners representing the club. Karl Pickstock was first home in 18th place, hot on his heels was Connor McArdle in 20th. Other counters were Mike Green (46th), John Armstrong (47th), Tony Barbat (48th) and Jez Fellick (53rd). Wallasey A.C. finished the day in 5th place of the 10 teams who completed the race and are positioned in 4th place after 2 races. Wallasey also had several marshalls who helped to ensure the race was a success.

Race 3 - Stadt Moers - 13/12/2014 - Seniors


Wallasey AC finished in fourth place overall in the Liverpool and District Cross Country Union. The club finished the last race in fourth place counters being Connor McArdle in an excellent tenth place, Greg Jones (27th), John Armstrong (28th), Mike Green (37th), Jez Fellick (41st) and Tony Barbat (47th). 20 runners appeared for the club.

Championships - Clarkes Garden - 08/02/2015 - Seniors


A misty Clarke's Garden was the venue for 113th L&D Cross Country Union Championships in Liverpool. The team finished 4th out of 14 teams on the day. The counters were Greg Jones (17th), Connor McArdle (21st), Jez Fellick (30th), Mike Green (31st), John Armstrong (36th) and Tony Barbat (39th). The race doubled as the club's cross country championship, Greg Jones and Sallie Holt are confirmed as this season's cross country champions.

Cross Country Championships



Merseyside - Sherdley Park - 03/01/2015 - Mens


The Merseyside County Championships took place at Sherdley Park in sunny conditions. The men had their best result for years when they picked up the bronze medal. The men's counters were Connor McArdle(17th), Greg Jones (18th), Jez Fellick (22nd), Mike Green (27th), John Armstrong (30th) and Rob Pearse (39th). The ladies finished 4th with Sallie Holt (9th), Mary Rees (20th), Julie Barbat (26th) and Nicci Davies (27th) the counters. Sallie Holt won a bronze medal for third V35-44, as did Mary Rees for third V45+. Tony Barbat also won bronze for third V50.

Northern - Pontefract - 24/01/2015 - Mens


Wallasey AC headed to Pontefract in Yorkshire for the Northern County Championships. The course was made up of 4k loops inside the racecourse and had plenty of muddy sections and the runners were also challenged by some gusty winds. The men finished 38th on the day and the counters were Connor McArdle (209th), Greg Jones (259th), John Armstrong (293rd), Tony Barbat (337th), Phil Dabner (455th) and Derek McArdle (604th). The ladies were represented by Sharon Lamont (292nd) and Alison Engle (304th).

National - Parliament Hill Fields, London - 21/02/2015 - Senior Men


The National Cross Country Championships for 2015 took place at Parliament Hill Fields in London. The course was very muddy and times were down on the last visit in 2012. The men and ladies shared the success of being the first Merseyside teams home. The men were 72nd out of the 145 complete teams that finished the race in the 6 man team. The counters were Connor McArdle (520th), Greg Jones (659th), John Armstrong (682nd), Mike Green (754th), Paul Bradford (987th) and Tony Barbat (1002nd). The ladies were 83rd out of 93 teams. Sallie Holt (316th), Julie Barbat (615th), Sharon Lamont (721st) and Alison Engle (733rd) counted for the ladies. Derek McArdle completed his 103rd consecutive race for the club eclipsing the record held by Stan Williams.

Wirral Multi Terrain Series



Race 1 - Royden Park - 02/09/2014 - Mens


Wirral Multi Terrain series for 2014 began at Royden Park and on a beautiful evening over 200 male runners and over 100 female runners completed the 2 lap course. The men finished in third place and the ladies in 13th. Karl Pickstock (5th) and Greg Jones (9th) both had great runs attaining top ten places, other counters were Connor McArdle (27th), John Armstrong (33rd) and Tony Barbat (35th). The ladies counters were Sallie Holt (13th), Jess Lovell (51st) and Vicky Kehoe (52nd).

Race 2 - Harrison Drive - 09/09/2014 - Mens


A beautiful sunset accompanied the runners on the second race of the Wirral Multi Terrain Series at Harrison Drive. The men finished second on the night with the counters being Karl Pickstock (5th), Phil Walton (6th), Greg Jones (11th), Richard Webster (19th) and Jez Fellick (23rd). The ladies improved to 7th with Sallie Holt (13th), Jess Lovell (23rd) and Vicky Kehoe (46th) counting.

Race 3 - Wirral Country Park - 16/09/2014 - Mens


The third Wirral Multi Terrain fixture took place at Wirral Country Park, with the seniors doing a two lap course taking in Thurstaston beach and the the Wirral Way. The men were victorious on the day thanks mainly to excellent running by Greg Jones and Karl Pickstock who finished second and third respectively. Other counters were Phil Walton (8th), Richard Webster (15th) and Tony Barbat (18th). The ladies ended the night in thirteenth place with Elaine Opara (44th), Jess Lovell (45th) and Julie Barbat (47th) counting.

Race 4 - Arrowe Park - 23/09/2014 - Mens


The final race in the Wirral Multi Terrain series was held at Arrowe Park. On the day the men finished fifth and second overall, the counters being Greg Jones (6th), Phil Walton (9th), Connor McArdle (28th, Jez Fellick (32nd) and Tony Barbat (35th). The ladies finished 6th on the night and twelfth overall, counters were Salle Holt (13th), Elaine Opara (32nd) and Vicky Kehoe (34th). Individual honours went to Karl Pickstock (2nd U30), Greg Jones (2nd U40), Phil Walton (3rd U40) and Tony Barbat (2nd V50). The men's B team also finished second B team.

Christmas Handicap



Christmas Handicap - Wallasey Shore - 21/12/2014 - Seniors


Handicap winner was Phil Dabner and first lady home was Nicci Davies. Fastest runners on the day with 14:26 was Connor McArdle and for the ladies Nicci Davies 22:02. Lauryn Holt won the junior race.
