While many of their fellow club members grappled with sterner things to achieve a successful conclusion to the Jumble Sale at St. Luke's Memorial Hall last Saturday afternoon, the runners of Wallasey Athletic Club who had been excused duty in order to represent the club in the match with Sefton Harriers at West Derby, also acquitted themselves well.
The winner of the senior race over 7 miles was Denis Dickinson with brother Tony (4th) and Tony Simpson (7th) to complete Wallasey's counting three for 12 points. Sefton won by the narrow margin of 2 points, packing 2, 3 and 5.
Wallasey youths won the race over 5 miles, in which the first man home was Ken Ledward of Wallasey, followed by Maddock (2nd), Johnson (4th), and Scammell (6th) - total 13 points to Sefton's 23.
Today W.A.C. youths' team travels to Horwich to compete in the Northern Cross-Country Association Championships and a club run will see the juniors and seniors at Leasowe Road Headquarters for the first Saturday since the club championships six weeks ago.
