Wallasey Athletic Club seniors tackled the full championship distance of 9 miles for the first time this season when they met their old friends and rivals, Wirral A.C. at Prenton last Saturday. Wirral (1, 2, 4 and 5) 12 pts. beat Wallasey (3, 7, 9 and 10) 29 points.
For Wirral, county champion Johnny Green (1) and club captain Norman Graces (2): managed to shake off Wallasey's Denis Dickinson (3) (56m. 55s.) who had clung to them tenaciously throughout both the 4 mile laps, which included a fair proportion of plough and mud.
For Wallasey, Dinsdale (7) (58m. 35s.) who started
strongly but fell back in the later stages, and Simpson and Foster (9th equal) (60m. 30s.) completed the counting four. Simpson, who is still a junior, put up a fine effort over this arduous course.
The youths ran over 3 miles and Wirral won again by 10 pts. to 26 pts.; but Wallasey's counting four were handicapped by their ignorance of the course, and on neutral ground a different tale might have been told.
W.A.C. senior, junior and youths' club cross-country. championships will be held at Leasowe this afternoon. The jumble sale will be held on Saturday, February 18 at St. Luke's Church Hall.
