On the same day Brian Woolford, our Northern Counties marathon champion competed in a 10-mile road race at Roundhay, Leeds.
In a race won by Ron Hill in record time from fellow internationals Brian Kilby and Jim Alder (the Scottish champion), "Woolley" did well to finish 5th.
It is to be hoped that this warm-up race will stand him in good stead when he and Ron Barlow tackle the best in the country in the A.A.A.'s Marathon Championships on August 17.
