Wallasey placed the first two men in the Liverpool League when John Wright and Brian Woolford outstripped the field over a hilly 5½-mile course.
Former Northern youth champion, Neill Thompson (Liverpool), did well to finish only three seconds behind Woolford, in third place.
Another surprise was the high placing of Liverpool University's Michael Cawthorne in fifth place, only a second behind his team-mate UAU representative John Jackson.
Results:
Seniors (5½ miles): J. Wright (Wallasey) 29min. 34 sec., 1; B. Woolford (Wallasey) 29.47. 2; N. Thompson (Liverpool) 29.50. 3.
Teams: Wirral, 106 pts., 1; Pembroke. 118, 2; Sefton. 144, 3.
