Park Relay

The Sefton Park relay was held under atrocious conditions last week.

From the first lap it looked like a sure Pembroke victory, Eddie Williams handing over a lead of 40 seconds from Neil Thompson, of Liverpool. On the next lap the holders, Wallasey A.C. put in Brian Woolford in an effort close with leaders and he gallantly brought his club from 10th place to second, but over half a minute behind Tony Dwyer of Pembroke.

This was the fastest lap of the day, Woolford returning 16 minutes 6 seconds. D. Jeffs, of Wirral, was only 12 seconds behind and then came Mike Duffy, of Waterloo and Paul Stevens of Liverpool, with A. Walsh of Sutton, completing the first six. ,

On the next lap it was thought that Kevin Mather; who has done some excellent indoor two-miling, would take Wallasey into the lead, but he had a comparatively slow lap of 16 minutes 28 seconds, but the fastest of that leg. Pembroke now led by 61 seconds and the club order remained unchanged to the finish reached first by Geoff Warriner in 1 hour 39 minutes 42 seconds. Wallasey in second place did 1-40-45, Wirral 1-41-18, Liverpool 1-42-25 (John Cleator 16 minutes 7 secs)., Pembroke B 1-45-29, and Sutton Harriers 1-46-53.
