First Major Win - Cranny Leads Wirral Home

Martin Cranny, of Wirral, scored his first major success in winning the Cheshire championships over 7½ miles at Winnington Park by 70 yards from the favourite, Brian Woolford.

Equally surprising was the defeat of team champions, Wallasey, who were beaten by 21 points by Wirral.

Cheshire's inter-counties team is: M. A. Cranny. B. Woolford, D. Biddle, A. Morton, W. P. Bennett, R. J. Phipps, K. J. Poyning, K. Mather, A. Townsend.
