Cross-Country at Wallasey

All the cross-country runners of the district will gather at the Wallasey A.C. headquarters, Leasowe Road, on Saturday, for the second League Mob Run of the season.

Over 100 seniors will be racing on a six miles course, and although the strength in depth of Pembroke A. & C.C. should result in a win in the scratch team race, it is most likely that Wallasey runners will occupy the premier individual placings.

The best running so far this season has come from John Wright and Brian Woolford, of Wallasey, with excellent support from their club-mate, Ron Barlow. These three are expected to. lead the way to the finish, but may be challenged by Geoff Warriner (Pembroke) and J. McAllister (Wirral A.C.).

The presence of S. James, of Middlesbrough and Cleveland H. the English junior champion of 1960, in the field with Sutton H., should increase expectancy although he is running rather below his usual standard. Cheshire Training College will be taking part as guests of Wallasey, and from amongst these unknowns might very well come a surprise.

The main event will be preceded by a race for youths and boys. Start 3 p.m.
