Wallasey Athletic Club's men were crowned champions of the Borders League road race series for the first time in their history last week. There were 10 Wallasey runners in the first 44 position to attain their lowest ever points score at the final event, a four-mile loop in Shotton, Deeside.
Led home by the foursome of Greg Jones, John Thelwell, Karl Pickstock and Richard Webster, they were able to overhaul local rivals Wirral Athletic Club to win the league which is contested by 16 local athletics clubs over seven road races.
Club captain David Walton was delighted with the outcome. He said: "This is an outstanding achievement for Wallasey Athletic Club."
The women's team title was won by Wirral Athletic Club who scored the lowest number of points in the seven races held between October and April.
Helped largely by Sarah Kearney and Sophie Hunt in third and fourth place at Deeside, Wirral ladies had a total of 26 points over the series to beat Tattenhall by 18 points.
