Missing Wallasey facing the axe

The future of Wallasey AC hangs in the balance following the failure of the club's men's team to appear for the Northern League match at Lancaster.

The club already barred from the Northern Cup Competition for a similar lapse, had four available runners but decided against making the 50 miles journey.

Wallasey have struggled since a rebel group led by James Downey formed Peninsula AC several years ago.

And although Peninsula is now restricted to track competitions the two clubs compete for the same catchment area to the detriment of each.

Wallasey are understood to have invited Peninsula to talks about amalgamation but have had no response from Downey or his team.

Peninsula finished fifth at Lancaster and languish at the bottom of the Northern League, still a point adrift of the non appearing Wallasey.
