Wallasey Athletic Club enjoyed a highly successful Cheshire County Championships at Warrington. Their star of the two day event was David Beggs who produced two fine performances in the Boys middle distance events.
In the 800 metres final David won the silver medal being denied the gold in the last stride. His time of 2 mins 11secs was a personal best and a six-seconds improvement.
In the 1,500 metres final the following day, David produced another startling personal best by six seconds to take the bronze in a time of 4mins. 31secs. in another closely-fought race.
David Beggs is a rising star with Wallasey A.C., as are other club athletes who gained medals at the championships. Mark Keeley won the bronze in the Junior Men's 1,500 metres final, missing the silver by one hundredth of a second.
These were admirably supported by Phil Cuthbert who won the bronze medal in the Junior Men's 3,000 steeplechase.
