Wallasey Cyclists' and Harriers' Carnival Preparations for 1901.

An early start has been made with the preparations for the fifth annual carnival and lantern parade in aid of the local medical charities, and it is to be hoped that the outside public will heartily respond to the preliminary appeals that will shortly be made upon their pockets in the shape of donations, prizes, draw tickets, &c.

The committee has done good work in the past, and is deserving of all the support that may be vouchsafed. Ardent and enthusiastic workers are also urgently required, but none with aspirations for official carriages, silk hats, frock coats, and gorgeous rosettes need apply. It is probable that the programme will, as in past years, include cycling and athletic sports and a fancy drees ball, but arrangements are at present in too embryonic a state to render prophesy advisable. A well-attended meeting of workers was held at the headquarters, Royal Ferry Hotel, New Brighton, on Monday evening, Mr. A. Bellis presiding, at which the following officials were elected:- President, Alderman James Smith, J.P. ; vice-president, Dr. W. Bell, J.P. ; chairman, Mr. J. H. Gough ; vice-chairmen, Messrs. A. Bellis and C. E. Pugh ; hon. sec., Mr. J. B. Cornwell, and hon. treas., Mr. F. H. Smith. The seven annual vacancies on the Executive Committee were filled as under the names marked (*) being re-elected. Messrs. *J. H, Gough, *A. Bellis, *W. S. Sproat, W. H. Rowley, *A. Davis, W. Smythe, F. M. Luce, and J. C. Bulmer. On Tuesday evening the adjourned meeting will be held at headquarters, at 8 30 p.m., when the various subcommittees and officers of committee will be elected. Any member of the outside public desirous of taking an active part in the work is cordially invited to attend.
