That this form of sport should have received such a small amount of attention in Wallasey during the last few years is inexplicable, having regard to the large number of young men residing in the district.
Those interested will be glad to know that the Homecroft Athletic Club, which was organised last winter, and was attended with, considerable success, is now about to resume operations. Headers may remember, that six or seven years ago, a club styled, the "Wallasey Harriers" catered for runners, but no doubt the difficulty of finding suitable headquarters and dressing accommodation was in some measure accountable for its untimely decease. These obstacles have been overcome in the present instance, the club being under the roof of the Y.M.C.A. in Manor-road. All the necessary offices for members' comfort are available, and with a good mile break to its doors and the Tower track close at hand, there is every prospect of the club becoming exceedingly strong in numbers, especially now that non-members of the Y.M.C.A. may join at the usual subscription of half-a-crown. The secretary is S. L. Brookes, 2, Eden-avenue, Egremont, who will be most happy to give full particulars to any young men who are interested.
The first run takes place on Saturday, the 23rd inst., at 3.30 p.m., from Manor-road in which all prospective members are cordially invited to take part. The Committee hope to apply for affiliation to the Liverpool & District Cross Country Association.
