On Christmas Day morning several of the above club, who are also members of "Liverpool Pembroke Harriers" journeyed to Greenwich Park, Aintree, to compete in, Pembroke's 100 yards and three miles' races.
The long distance race saw a turnout of about 40 runners, and the Homecroftians were placed at follows:-5th, P. T. Monks, 2 min. 45 secs, start; 7th, W. Parry, 2 min. 15 secs, start; 8th, S. L. Brookes, 3 min. start; 9th, T. J. Brookes, 1 min. 45 secs, start; 11th, W. S. Brookes, 1 min., 45 secs, start. In the sprint race only W. S. Brookes qualified in his heat for the final, which contained 11 runners, and as there were no strings up this race resolved itself into a jostling match, the back markers not having a chance to get through.
On Boxing Day the Liverpool and District Cross Country Association's Junior Mile Championship was held at Aintree, and Homecroft were represented by their crack Barley. He ran a grand race, and led the field up to the last 50 yards, when Rice (Sefton Harriers), who had always been in attendance, went in front and just won. Barley did a splendid, performance, when it is considered he had just arrived from, a long railway journey.
On Saturday next, 6th January, Edgehill Harriers are to visit Homecroft, and the club is confident of victory.
