In Sefton Park on Saturday, Liverpool & District staged their annual six by three miles relay and Wallasey Athletic Club was represented by a strong team.
Pete Lewis led off on the first leg, his lap time 16 mins. 44 secs. bringing him to ninth place. Dave Lockley ran a great lap of 16 mins. 8 secs. and gained four places. Bob Brimage went off next and his lap of 17 mins. 12 secs. returned him in 7th place.
Phil Wealthy ran a good leg in 17 mins. 39 secs., as did Gwynn Griffith and. Doug Hanna. The team's overall time was 105 mins. 15 secs.
At Arrowe Park, in the Cheshire County Championships, the ladies section had its biggest entry in the junior ranks. Lynn Carter, Helen Taylor and Diana Kelly ran well, as did Hilary Upton and Gill Forshaw.
In the senior race, Wallasey retained its county title, with Barbara Banks winning in 17 mins. 28 secs., closely followed by team mate Margaret Ashcroft in 17 mins, 35 secs. Audrey Mackay was 8th and Sue Carter 10th.
At the Lancashire Championships at Bolton, Janice Watts had a good run to come second in 12 mins. 48 secs. behind Liz Connors of Preston (12 mins. 28 secs).
This weekend the club's men's section take part in the H. S. Finney relay in Blackpool.
