Wallasey in Northern championships

Last Saturday afternoon at Rowntree's, York, a record field of 1,000 entries contested the Northern Cross-Country Championships.

Wallasey Athletic Club competed in the junior race and gained 8th place. Of the local clubs only Sutton Harriers the West Lancashire Junior Champions, and Liverpool Harriers, whose team was strengthened by the addition of Donoghue (5th) the Liverpool University runner, finished in front of Wallasey.

After a fast 6 miles race over a level figure of eight course, the final positions of the Wallasey juniors were Kirk 18th, H. Thompson 27th, R. Johnston 33rd. A. Simpson 48th, E. Bollard 73rd, Wright 74th. Thus the fact that the team placing depended on finishing 6 men instead of 4 as in the local championship handicapped Wallasey's small team. Nevertheless every member of the team can be well satisfied with his performance.

There now remains the National Championship next Saturday at Birmingham for which Wallasey's team will be strengthened by the addition of Peter Evans of the R.A.F. who finished 3rd in the West Lancashire junior race.

For Saturday's fixture with Pembroke and Liverpool Harriers at Court Hey, Broadgreen, Wallasey Athletic Club meets at Liverpool Landing Stage at 2-00 p.m.
