Officials of Wallasey Athletic Club have been, angered by a letter in a local paper which suggests that they will amalgamate this autumn with Wirral Athletic Club.
Signed by 'member' the letter says the club are in a serious financial position, and calls for a grant from Wallasey council (of between £200 and £300. ) 'Whoever put this in the paper had no right to,' said chief coach Mr Carl Gee, of King Street, 'Wallasey.
'Possibly they had the club at heart when they wrote it. But we feel this ought to have come from the committee. There had been talk of amalgamation,' said Mr Gee, 'but that was as far as it had gone. The club did have money problems,' he said. 'We have always had to struggle and our finances have never been healthy,' said Mr Gee.
