In last Saturday's notes the writer of this article said that even the slowest crab could win the Christmas handicap.
The words must now be eaten, for the seemingly impossible occurred. R. Barlow running off scratch won the event and showed class that will make club members talk for a long time to come. The writer has three minutes advance on Barlow and had just passed the halfway mark when Barlow disappeared in front of him into the mist. Truly an occasion in the club's history! A. Townsend was second.
The weather last Saturday was foggy and wet, but all the runners braved the elements and enjoyed themselves. This shows what strength of character the runners are developing as sportsmen, for it was disappointing to see the adjacent football pitches empty and other national sports cancelled. Anyone wishing to join the club should contact R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street, New Brighton. Today there is a club run at 3-15 p.m.
