In the Wallasey Athletic Club cross-country championships last Saturday, Ken Poyning showed more of the good form he is having this season, winning the boys' race.
Second was Brian Anthony and third Brian Shaw. The sealed handicap for the race was won by Ron Edwards, who was placed in fifth postion.
In the youth race Ron Barlow's speed and stamina proved too much for the rest of the field and he won by about a hundred yards. Second place was gained by Tony Townsend and third by Tony Farrell.
Fourth and fifth places were gained by A. Scott and Ken Tunstall. Ken unfortunately was not up to his usual form or he would have been placed further up the field. Sixth and seventh positions were gained by Dave White and Phil Townsend respectively. The winner of the youth's sealed handicap was Tony Farrell.
The junior race was won magnificently by Brian Woolford with quite a handsome margin over Ian McIvor. Bill Farrell was third and Hugh Pritchard fourth. The sealed handicap winner was Bill Farrell.
The senior race resulted in a win for John Lynch, who covered the nine miles in a time of 54 minutes 15 seconds, a good time for the course. Second was Ray Scammell and third Harry Lutas, Bob Fullerton gained fourth place and also won the sealed handicap.
This week the Cheshire County Cross-Country Championships are being held at Godley, near Hyde. The club has teams entered in all three races. Travelling arrangements, meet at Seacombe Ferry at 11:30 a.m. or Birkenhead Town Hall at 11:45 a.m.
