David Lockley and Barrie Smith of Wallasey Athletic Club, both ran six seconds faster than ever before in a two-mile race at Kirkby last Tuesday. In a field of 21 runners Barrie finished 5th in 9 minutes 31 seconds and David came in only a couple of places back in 9 m 35s.

09 September 1967 (New)   Hanna close to two minute 'barrier'
At Kirkby last Tuesday, Doug Hanna clocked 2 mins. 1.1 secs, for the 880 yds., after leading through the first 440 in an ideal 59 secs. Both he and Barrie Smith, who recorded 2 mins. 3 secs., faded slightly over the second 440 to finish 4th and 5th respectively.

On Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Club travelled to Sheffield to compete In the Northern Cross-Country Championships. The championships had previously been scheduled for a week earlier at Hartlepool, but were cancelled because of the foot and mouth epidemic.

On Saturday Wallasey A.C. took part in the Sale Harriers' Easter Road relays. Thanks to a fast time by Johnny Jones they came 4th in the senior event. The races all 3 x 1¼ miles, were for the four age groups, under 14's, under 15's, under 16's and under 18's.
