21 November 1953   'Needle' matches for W.A.C.
Waterloo residents must have thought there was an invasion last Saturday, when almost 200 runners took part in the annual road race over 6¾ miles, Ken Gates (Liverpool Pembroke) was the winner in 34mins. 46secs., closely followed home by Peter Thompson of Manchester and A. Lawton of Leeds.
