Wallasey Athletic Club had their first organised run of the cross-country season last Saturday, when a pack of nearly a dozen athletes covered a nine mile course. Five senior runners all showed promise, and it is gratifying to see prospects of a stronger senior team this winter.

Wallasey entertained Port Sunlight A.C. at Leasowe Road last Saturday in a friendly match. With small turn-outs, a combined race was held for juniors and seniors, over a 4½ miles course of one lap of the playing field and two laps on Bidston Marshes. Boys and youths had a 2½ miles run.

Last Saturday Wallasey Athletic Club members took part in a six-mile road run around Leasowe in preparation for today's 7-mile Waterloo Road Race. This event is a favourite for most athletes in Lancashire and Cheshire and attracts nearly 300 entries.

The second of the Liverpool & District Cross-Country league fixtures was held at Kirkby last Saturday; over a testing six miles course. Wallasey did well to finish fifth, an improvement of one place on the first race held at Woolton three weeks previously.

Last Saturday members of Wallasey A.C. travelled to Warrington to compete in the H.S. Finney Trophy race. In addition to the senior race which was for teams of twelve runners with eight to score, there was also a boys' race and youth race.

After six or seven weeks of continuous racing, Wallasey Athletic Club last Saturday had no fixture and those members who felt active enough to turn out enjoyed a run at their own speed over a distance of six or eight miles.

The Christmas handicap last Saturday held many surprises. In the Senior event, John Wright ran through the field off scratch, and won in the splendid time of 17 mins. 24 secs, over a 3½ mile course. Considering the first man had four minutes start this is a wonderful result.

The first of the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Championships, held last Saturday produced the some unexpected results. The course was over slightly undulating parkland at Wavertree Playground. Four championships were held for boys, youths, juniors and seniors.

The English championships at Peterborough last Saturday produced some surprises. Fred Norris, the Northern Counties senior champion, confounded his critics who felt that he would be too old, by finishing 250 yards ahead. Wallasey A.C.'s two entries in this race did not compete.
