Wirral Multi-Terrain Series

Overview

Wallasey Athletic Club actively participates in the Wirral Multi-Terrain Series, a league competition that takes place every Tuesday evening throughout the month of September. This series consists of four races, each set over a variety of challenging terrains. Competitors can expect to run across sand, rocks, mud, and hills, with race distances varying between 4.25 and 5.5 miles.

Team Structure and Participation

The league accommodates both men's and women's teams, with five scoring runners required for the Men's team and three for the Women's team. The club has the option to enter multiple teams in the competition. Trophies are awarded to the best overall Team, based on aggregate scores from all four races, as well as to individual athletes in various age groups, with the best three performances out of four races counting towards individual awards.

Entry Process and Fees

All participants must pre-enter the series, with registration available through the Nifty Entries website. The entry fees are set at £6 per race for senior competitors and £2 per race for Juniors, with a discounted rate of £21 available for those entering all four races in the series.

Race Timing

Each runner is issued a chipped bib, which is used for the entire series. This system enables accurate chip timing and ensures that race results are available on the evening of each event. The minimum age for participation in the Senior races is 15 years old on the night of the race. Young athletes, specifically those in the Under 15 and Under 13 categories, compete in a separate race, which typically covers a single lap of approximately two miles.

Additional Participation Rules

Second claim runners may take part in the series provided that their first claim club is not entered in the league.

Borders League

Borders start

Overview

The Borders League is comprised of six local monthly road races, typically taking place from September to April. These events, which range from 4.5 to 6 miles in length, are generally scheduled for Sunday mornings. Upon completion of the series, there is a relay race and a presentation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of participants. Each club is responsible for hosting a race once every three years. The clubs participating in the league are based in Wirral, Cheshire, and North Wales, reflecting the league's regional scope.

Team Structure and Participation

The league is organised into four divisions: two for men and two for women. Wallasey AC currently competes in the first division for both genders. In each race, ten male runners and six female runners count towards the team score. However, all finishers play an important role, as their placements can influence the scoring by pushing runners from rival teams further down the results. Trophies are awarded to the best overall teams, based on aggregate scores from all six races, as well as to individual athletes in various age groups, with the best five performances out of six races counting towards individual awards.

Entry Process and Fees

Entry to Borders League races is currently free. Athletes with England Athletics (EA) membership have already been assigned a barcode. New members or those who have recently renewed their EA membership and cannot locate their names on the Borders barcode list must register for a barcode in advance, no later than the Thursday before the race. For assistance, participants should contact membership@wallaseyac.gmail.com.

Race Timing

A barcode system is used for recording race results. Registered runners can print their barcodes from the Borders League website and must carry them during each race. After finishing, runners receive a token, which, along with their barcode, is handed to the team manager for scanning.

Additional Participation Rules

The minimum age for participation is 15 years, as of 1st September before the start of the season. Second claim runners may compete, provided their first claim club does not take part in the league.

The Grand Prix is organised to promote healthy competition among club runners throughout the season. This event consists of several divisions to ensure fair participation. For men, there are two separate divisions, while women and juniors each compete within their own distinct divisions.

Points Allocation System

Points are awarded based on finishing position within each division. The first runner to cross the finish line in a division receives 30 points, the second runner earns 29 points, and subsequent runners are awarded points in descending order.

Season Results and Championship Criteria

To determine the Grand Prix champion, the points earned from all races throughout the season are totalled. However, only the best 13 results out of the 18 races are counted towards the final tally. This ensures consistency and rewards sustained performance.
