Len Platt of Wallasey Athletic Club retained his hop, step and jump title with a distance of 44ft. 3ins. when the Northern Counties Athletic Championships were decided at Fallowfield, Manchester last Saturday. He also took second place in the long jump with a leap of 21ft. 5½ins.
On the same day the fifth annual Inter-Town Athletic Championship of Lancashire and Cheshire for competitors aged under 20 took place at the Liverpool Boys Association track at Fazakerley. With no senior athletes to contend with Penny Price (W.A.C.) found the opposition in her own age group (over 17) more to her liking , and enjoyed a field day, winning the 100 yards, 80 yards hurdles and long jump. Mavis Ashcroft (W.A.C.) too made a welcome return to form clearing 4ft. 7 ins. to gain first place in the high jump.
The members of Wallasey's winning under 16 girls relay team were Collings, Ledward, Greenslade and Walker, all of W.A.C., as are also Messrs. Trevor Prydderch, Price, Fullerton, and Lancaster, the members of Wallasey's boys over 17 relay team, who took third place.
The final result found the Wallasey girls' team in second place 9 points behind Liverpool girls' team.
Bruce Porter (W.A.C.) won the shot event for Wallasey in his age group (15-16) and took second place in the javelin.
