At Leasowe on Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Clubs youths met a team from H.M.S. Conway over 5 miles, and inflicted an overwhelming defeat, upon them by 41 pts. to 108.
The nautical boys may have barely recovered their land legs after their long coach trip from Anglesey, but certainly a hilly course is not a novelty to them. However, their eclipse was complete, which is not to infer that the victory was easily won.
In spite of a chilly wind, the winner, Eric Maddock, returned the fast time of 30m. 32s. and the other counters for Wallasey were 2, K. Ledward (30m. 46s.); 3, Johnson (31m. 27s.); 5, Foot (32m. 19s.); 6, Weir (32m. 20s.); 7, Scammell (32m. 28s.); 8, Lynch (33m.); 9, Whitburn (35m. 07s.).
There is a match at Leasowe Road, this afternoon versus R.A.F., West Kirby, and next Saturday the fixture is against Waterloo, followed by the club's Grand National Dance at the Grosvenor Ballroom in the evening.
