Northern Counties Senior Championships were held at Fallowfield, Manchester, last Saturday, under adverse weather conditions, which seriously affected performances.
B. O. Kivlin of Wallasey, was unlucky to be suffering from the effects of a chill and was consequently considerably below his best form. Nevertheless he gained two easy seconds, beaten an inch and a half by W. N. White, of Airdale Harriers, who cleared 38ft 9½ ins. in the hop, step and jump and in the 120 yards hurdles, being a yard in the rear of brilliant J. L. Taylor, of Merchant Taylors School.
A. Pennington, the Wallasey Olympic runner, was also well below par, finishing third in the 440 yards, to W. Roberts, international and Olympic star of a decade ago, who returned a time of 49.5 seconds on the heavy track.
G. K. Williams runner-up in the Wallasey Cross-Country Championship last February finished 6th in the Half-mile 2 mins. 1.2 secs.
Waterloo H. & A.C. promoted the first Merseyside open meeting last Saturday, and J. Edwards, Wallasey A.C.'s captain, carried off one of the major awards, winning the open mile.
