The above club, which is an amalgamation of Homecroft Athletic and Wallasey Harriers, promises to be a very strong organisation.
For some time it has been apparent that athletics in the district has been increasing in favour, with the result that the idea occurred to both the old clubs that with a joining of forces some of the honours of the sport could be brought to Wallasey. This has now been accomplished, and the rest has to be seen, but there is no doubt that things are going to be done on business lines. The president is Mr. F. C. O'Connell, of the Northern Counties Athletic & Cross-Country Association, who was one of the judges in the International cross-country race held outside Paris between France and England. The captain is Mr. A. G. Nicholson, who has run on the track and cross-country for a good many years. The hon. treasurer is that good old runner, Mr. H. Rothery, 9, Glencoe Road. Liscard, who, it will be remembered, was amongst the very first rank of runners some years ago. Mr. C. Hilton Spence, 32 Gerard Road, Wallasey, is the hon. secretary, and he has already won renown for the club by finishing second in the Liverpool & District Cross-country Association's Monstre meet last Saturday to J. Parsonage, Warrington. With youth at the prow and experience at the wheel, the future is bright. For anybody wanting really healthy outdoor exercise, without fatigue, here is the chance, as nobody is asked to go faster than their own pace in club runs. All wishing to join should communicate with the hon. secretary without delay. Last week the club were engaged in the Liverpool & District Cross-country Association's meet at Prescot. The first club run, which was hold from headquarters - the Fairhaven Institute, Seaview Road - two weeks ago, was very successful, as well over twenty members turned up and enjoyed a splendid go-as-you-please. To-day the club run from headquarters at 3-30 p.m., when it is hoped that the spacious accommodation will be sorely taxed. All interested in the sport are cordially invited.
