On Saturday the above club held their Christmas handicap from headquarters, Oarside Farm, Mount Pleasant-road.
Owing to the lateness of the hour of starting, and the darkness which prevailed, the run was conducted under many difficulties. There was a good list of entries, but owing to various circumstances only nineteen turned out. The trail was laid over a course of five miles of heavy country, by way of Wallasey Church, Leasowe Fields, Green-lane, Wallasey Village, Grove-road, and Hose Side. Here, several spectators awaited to see the finish, and their surprise may be imagined when, not ten minutes after the trail layers had returned, three of the pack arrived, but their appearance was soon explained by the fact of their having missed the trail in the dusk, which is a great pity, as it entirely spoilt their chances in the race. The result was as follows:- 1, D. Don, 2, E. S. Bale, 3, F. Richards.
In the evening a very successful social was held, Mr. F. C. O'Connell (president) being in the chair. Among the artistes whose services were specially enjoyed were Messrs. A. MacClelland, W. L. Young, S. Dobson, and D. Don. During the course of the evening the chairman distributed the prizes.
