The monstre meet and opening run of the members of the clubs comprising the above association took place on Saturday afternoon, at Rapland's Recreation Ground, Gorsey-lane, Warrington, before a good attendance.
The events included a mile ''break" for seniors and novices, and prizes were also offered for the best muster of club members. The number of clubs represented was 27, and 257 members turned out, made up aa follows: - Birkenhead Parish Church 4, Farnworth H. 2, Liverpool Gordon 1, Liverpool Boundary 1, Liverpool Oddfellows 1, Liverpool Gymnasium 4, Liverpool Pembroke 2, North Liverpool Gymnasium 8, Prescot A.C. 6, Ravenhead St. Helens 14, Liverpool Richmond 5, Runcorn Tally-ho 9, Runcorn Holy Trinity 18, St. Helens Sacred Heart 27, Sefton H 2, St. Helens A.C. 8, St. Helens Recs. 5, Sutton H. 24, Wallasey A.C. 1, Warrington Ryland's Workmen 23, Cable Works 16, Athletic 14, United 35, West Cheshire H. 15, Wigan C. & A.C. 3, St. Austin's H. (Thatto Heath) 1 and Liverpool H. 7.
The competitors started from the Recreation Ground, and after going one lap proceeded across Manchester-road, over Westy Bain to Woolston, back again into Manchester-road, the distance being about 6½ miles. A mile from home the competitors were pulled up for the final sprint, the seniors being sent off first. This race resulted in J. T. Rimmer, of Sefton, gaining premier honours, beating E. Parkinson, of Liverpool H., by six yarda, whilst C. H. Spence, of Wallasey, was placed third. S. Francom (Sefton), G. W. Hunt (Warrington United), and H. Lyon (Ravenhead) followed in quick succession. The time was given as 5 mins. 28 secs. The novices' race provided an exciting finish, and only four yards separated the first three home. C. Holland, of the Sacred Heart, St. Helens, was placed first, J. Price, West Cheshire H., 2: and Jas Langley, Sacred Heart, St. Helens, 3.
The winners of the muster prizes were as follows:- 1, Warrington United, 85; 2, Sacred Heart. 27; 3, Sutton Harriers, 24.
After the race tea was served, and a smoking concert followed, when the prizes were distributed.
