On Saturday last the above club held a three-mile road handicap starting from headquarters and embracing a circuit of a mile which had to be traversed three times.
At the end of the first mile the running was taken up by W. F. Parry and W. S. Brookes and this pair kept the lead until the last 200 yards, when Brookes went to the front and won. Barley, the scratch man, had in the meantime been gradually gaining, and coming with a burst at the finish he beat Parry for second place; accomplishing the fastest time, viz., 15min. 42secs. for the full three miles. The result is as follows: 1st, W. S. Brookes, 15min. 40secs.; 2nd. J. B. Barley, 15min. 42secs.; 3rd W. F. Parry, 15min. 51secs.; 4th, E. E. Jones, 15min. 58secs.; 5th, S. L. Brookes, 16mins. 2secs.
