Members and friends of the Wallasey Athletic club will be pleased to learn that the club obtained the second prize at the Bury police sports last Saturday in the junior harrier 2 mile team race.
Four men comprised a team, with three to count, and the event was open to all amateurs. Wallasey were represented, by E. Plant, T. J. Brookes, E. S. Bale, and R. J. Lowes, the three former being placed 3rd, 6th, and 13th respectively, making a total of 22 points. The Wibsey Park Harriers scored 18 points, placing the 2nd, 7th, and 9th men, while the third team, Billington Harriers, scored 35 points.
E. Plant was also placed second in the mile race, off 99 yards, and with better judgment should have won easily. Plant who has recently come to the front in athletics is a splendid runner. This season he has competed in four 1-mile races, has won two (Manchester and Leigh), and has been placed second in one (Bury), making a total of £13 worth of prizes. Not bad to be going on with!
