Kelford Glover, a sixteen-years-old member of the Wallasey Athletic Club, made athletic history last Saturday when he carried off the Northern Counties Youths 100 Yards Championship and set up a new record for this event with the remarkable time of 10.39 secs.
This brilliant success against all the best young sprinters in the North of England should be the forerunner of greater honours in the running world, and the young champion's many friends and well-wishers in local athletic circles have expressed the hope that he will follow the path of gradual development in his running career and not allow his ardour for the sport to draw him into too strenuous competitive events before his physique has had time to strengthen and fully develop.
Glover's success is the first win registered by a Wallasey Athletic Club member in the Northern Counties Championships for some years. He is a son of Mr. T. W. Clover, of 22 Stringhey-road, Wallasey.
Glover, it will be remembered, last year won the gold medal and the school championship at the Wallasey Schoolboys' Athletic Sports. He is an old Central School boy.
