Wallasey A.C. held a successful track meeting at the Village Festival last Saturday.
J. S. K. Glover, ex-A.A.A. 100 yards and 220 yards Junior Champion, won the 100 Yards Championship by inches from D. Irving, with R. J. Murphy third. These positions were reversed in the 100 Yards Handicap, R. J. Murphy (12 yards) winning easily, with Irving (7 yards) second, J. S. K. Glover (3 yards) third, and J. Brown (15 yards) fourth.
The best performance of the meeting, however, was that of L. Bell, who took two second prizes in the three laps and ten laps handicaps. Another outstanding performance was that of J. Brown, a 14 years old Manor-road schoolboy, who won the one lap handicap off 42 yards. A natural runner with a fine style, Brown gives every promise of developing into a great sprinter.
H. Lightfoot won the three laps handicap after a hard race with L. Bell, neither G. M. Band nor F. G. Ambrose, who were much fancied at this distance, revealing their best form.
In the 10 laps handicap the scratch men, W. R. Richardson and H. Lightfoot, had to run hard to overhaul the limit men as in this event the starts went out to 200 yards. The lead was held in turn by W. A. Geddes (140), J. Edwards (120) and L. Bell (80), but on the 9th lap the latter was passed by Richardson (scr.), who eventually won easily. L. Bell again revealed a surprising turn of speed when in the last furlong he beat H. Lightfoot into third place after the latter had drawn level.
