Bob Fullerton, of Wallasey Athletic Club, produced his best form over the quarter mile during the Northern Counties junior championships at Chesterfield last Saturday. Winning his heat in the fast time of 52.2 secs., he took fourth place in the final with 53.9 secs., thus surpassing both the A.A.A. (53 secs.) and N.C.A.A. (54 secs.) junior standards.
Two senior members of W.A.C., vice-captain Frank Ledward and Bob McCaig, are training for the marathon distance of 26 miles. Last Saturday they made considerable progress towards their objective by finishing equal 13th in a 22 mile road race at York in the time of 2 hrs. 31 minutes.
Next Friday and Saturday W.A.C., members Penny Price, Margaret Collings, Dave Johnson and Don Anderson are representing Cheshire at the inter-counties school championships at Southampton.
Next Thursday, evening at their home track in Leasowe Road, W.A.C. meet Liverpool Harriers & A.C. in match starting at 7 30 p.m. and comprising some 14 events in the senior, junior, women's and youth's categories.
Ron Hubbard will be in charge of the working party on the roof of the club to-morrow at 10 a.m., when he will welcome the assistance of members.
