Mr Alan Pennington, second son of Councillor J. Pennington, has passed his Bar final examination and expects to be called to the Bar in a few months. His success is notable in that he has taken his finals in the short period of six months.
Mr. Pennington, who is 34, was educated at Berkhamsted School and Oxford University, and was a prominent athlete in his student days representing Great Britain in the 1936 Olympic Games at Berlin running in the 100 and 200 metres, he obtained his M.A. (Oxon) with honours in 1939, saw active service during the war - he was at Dunkirk - and at the end of the war went into business. He retained his old affection for the law, however, and giving up business, became a member of the Inner Temple last year.
His father, Councillor Pennington, is a former Mayor and alderman of the borough, who left the Council for a period owing to pressure of professional work.
