In the Northern Ladies' track and field championships held at Kirkby Stadium last Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Club's Barbara Banks won a bronze medal in finishing third in the senior 1,500 metres, with a time of 4 min. 39 sec. Margaret Ashcroft followed her in seventh place in 4 min. 53 sec.
Janice Watts ran a tactical 800 metres race but was beaten down into sixth position in 2 min. 21 sec. Julie Halfpenny produced a time of 66 sec. in the intermediate 400 metres.
Today the club's ladies section will be taking part in the 3 x 1,000 metres relay races at New Brighton as part of the Wallasey Festival of Sport. The senior men's section travel to Oldham for their second Northern League match.
