Wallasey Athletic Club's best performance in an interclub meeting at Sale on Saturday came from junior girl Helen Taylor, with a personal best of 2min. 35 sec. Her senior colleague. Mary Caldwell, succumbed, to the sultry conditions and could only make fifth place, in 2min. 39sec.
The senior men's long jump saw Alan Cheers win with a fine leap of 19ft. 10in., with Geoff Davies close at 19ft. Carl Gee completed the places with 18ft.
n the 100 metres Pete Lewis was first out of the blocks but at the end of the straight was injured, and slumped to 4th in 11.7sec. Mike Teahan and Alan Cheers both recorded 11.9sec.
Ian Wilson fought all the way to be 2nd in the 800 metres, in 2min. 2.2sec., and Bob Brimage won the 1500 metres in handsome style in 4min. 11 sec. Another winner was Steve Kelly in the 400 metres.
Today great things are expected of the senior men when they compete in the Rivington Trophy meeting at Bolton. Tomorrow afternoon the women have their third Cheshire league meeting at Woodchurch.
