Three members of Wallasey A.C. were included in the Cheshire team for the All-England Schools' Championships staged on the new Bradford track in far from ideal conditions.
Wallasey's most successful competitor was Don Anderson who won the senior 880 yards in two minutes two seconds. It is not so fast as his record when winning at Southampton last year but it keeps him in the top flight of junior athletes.
Dave Johnson qualified for the final of the quarter mile but in a very fast run race, he was unable to sustain a finishing burst to maintain his position at the front.
Margaret Collings, who has jumped over 16 feet consistently this season, had a poor day, and was unable to register a jump in an event which was won with a distance of 15 feet 10 inches.
At the Lancashire and Cheshire Youth Activities Council annual athletic meeting at St. Helens success came to the Wallasey team, in the following events: High jump (17-20), J. G. Moores; Long jump (15-16), E. Hawkins; Javelin (17-20), J. G. Moores; Shot putt (17-20), T. X. Calvey; Long jump (17-20), K. D. Rimmer.
Places were gained by the following: High jump, girls (15-16), 3rd, B. Heaney; javelin, girls (15-16), 2, J. Carroll, (17-20), 2nd, J. Williams. 100 yds., girls (15-16), 4th, J. Carroll; 80 yds., boys (15-16), 3rd R. Parry. Long jump, girls (15-16), 4th. H. McDonald : 80 yds. hurdles, girls (15-16), J. Carroll. 80 yds. hurdles, boys (17-20), 4th. K. D. Rimmer. Discus, boys (17-20), 2nd, B. S. Liversage; (17-20), 4th. T. N. Calvey. 440 yds, boys (17-20). 2nd, R. Fullerton.
In the boys' championship, Wallasey were placed joint 4th with the Liverpool Evening Institute team, and in the girls' championship Wallasey were placed 5th.
Brenda Humphrey gained 2nd place in the 100 yds., 200 yds. and the high jump at the Scottish games in Liverpool.
Next Tuesday, an inter-club fixture will be held at Leasowe Road playing fields against Sefton Harriers commencing at 7.30 p.m. prompt,
On Monday evening the first of the club championships will be heId. Those now take place each Monday and Thursday evening till the end of August. Events on Monday will be youth long jump (under 17), junior 100 yards (17-19), senior javelin (over 19) and ladies high jump.
