Wallasey A.C. novice championship was held last Saturday over a 3¼ mile course of marsh and grassland when Dave Standfast won very convincingly in the fast time for conditions of 19 minutes 31 seconds.
The course was in the main very heavy underfoot but the field of fifteen runners set a fast pace throughout and creditable performances were achieved by Alan Moore and Dave Johnson, who took second and third positions.
A sealed handicap for West Lancashire novices was held in conjunction with the race which was won by Bill Farrell who showed a considerable improvement on early season form. Warden also ran extremely well in this handicap event.
Fastest time went to senior Alan Clarke running from scratch who led throughout to finish in 19 minutes 27 seconds, but it was interesting to note that he was quite hard pushed by Standfast over the final few hundred yards.
Wallasey this Saturday travel to Liverpool Harriers' H.Q. at Woolton and are asked to meet at Liverpool Pier Head at 2 p.m.
There will be a club run from H.Q. commencing 3.15 p.m.
