One of the star performers in the ladies' section of the Wallasey Athletic Club, Margaret Collings, shown above, has an imposing list of awards to her credit.
Her most notable performances have been achieved in the high-jump at the Cheshire Championships in 1953 when she took first place against strong opposition, the long jump, in which she took second place in the 1952 Northern Counties final, and the inter-schools All England Relay in which she was a member of the winning team.
These successes, coupled with various awards in the Wallasey Youth Olympiad and inter-town meetings since 1949 have made Margaret a model for young athletes to follow. Should any girl or boy be interested in athletics, the Wallasey Athletic Club is open to them on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 7 till 9 p.m. Further details can be obtained from either Miss M. Collings, 60 Withens Lane, or the club secretary, Mr. E. Bollard, 97 Pasture Road, Moreton.
