Walter Hogarth, winning the 1953 West Lancs cross-country championship in the record time of 13 minutes 54 seconds, is an outstanding athlete in his own age group, and shows great promise of a successful future in the running world. He is now concentrating , on the mile, and is attempting to bring his time down to 4 minutes 30 seconds this season.
Walter, who trains hard all the year round, has not been in competitive athletics for more than three years, but already he has run up a distinguished list of wins which include a convincing victory in the Wallasey Schools Championships in November 1953. 2nd place in the Liverpool & District race in February 1953 and 10th from a big field Northern Counties Championships the same year. Intending members will be able to see Walter Hogarth, with other members of the Wallasey Athletic Club training at Club H.Q. in Leasowe Playing Fields any Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. Inquiries will be welcomed by club secretary Mr. E.
