John Lynch and Frank Ledward travelled last Saturday to Wakefield to compete in a 20 m. road race.
From a field of 62 starters, of which only 42 finished the course, thanks to a temperature of 80 degrees. John ran into 19th place in a time of 2 hours 14 minutes 38 seconds, thereby receiving 3rd prize in the sealed handicap, while Frank filled 37th position in 2 hrs. 47 mins. 13 secs. The race was won by that renowned runner A. Kiely of Derby in 1 hr. 55 mins., with E. Kirkup hard on his heels in 1 hr. 55 mins. 1 sec.
Wallasey A.C. also competed in a meeting held by the Eirias Club of Colwyn Bay last Saturday, on a track which must be one of the finest and most beautifully situated in the country. No fewer than 15 made the journey from Wallasey, and successes were attained by Tom Kennedy who finished 1st in the 220 yds. in 24 secs. hat. and then went on to take second place in the long jump clearing 18' 6½". Tony Townsend won the javelin with a throw of 106 ft., while Marie Downey and Carl Gee both came 3rd in their respective discus events. An enjoyable afternoon shared by all concerned.
