The Wallasey Gala next Wednesday in Central Park, will field some of the North of England's champion track and field athletes including K. Willmshurst, Port Sunlight A.C., who was captain of the British team in the West Indies and who holds the English hop, step and jump record.
Competing against Ken Willmshurst will be Len Platt from Wallasey A.C., an international long jumper and Cheshire champion. C. A. Shiers of Liverpool Pembroke, the Lancashire high jump champion, will also be competing.
Jean Whitehead of Liverpool A.C. will compete in the long-jump. She is the Women's A.A.A. intermediate champion. M. Collings (Wallasey A.C.) former Cheshire high jump champion meets W. Fletcher, who was placed third in the British ranking for 1955. In the track events D. Lovelady (Sefton A.C.) 880yds. Lancashire champion, who gained second place in the Inter-Counties athletic match, will meet F. Wilson (Liverpool Pembroke) the former Lancashire champion.
In the junior mile will be Bennett and Jeffs (Wirral A.C.) who have both been credited with very fast times. R. Barlow (Wallasey) the reigning Liverpool & District, West Lancashire, Northern & Cheshire cross-country champion, will be competing in the Youths' 100 and 880yds.
The programme starts at 7 p.m. Six clubs will compete in the Gala - Liverpool Pembroke C. & A.C., Liverpool H. & A.C., Sefton H., Wirral A.C., Port Sunlight A.C. and Wallasey A.C.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
In the Northern Counties Junior championships Roger Smith, in his first major championship; competed creditably in the hammer and javelin, being placed third and sixth respectively with throws of 89ft. in the hammer and 150ft. 6in. in the javelin, P. White and I. McIvor in the mile found the opposition a little too strong and were unable to qualify for the final.
FRIENDLY CONTEST.
A three-cornered meeting has been arranged for Monday, July 23, between Waterloo, Southport and Wallasey, to be held at Waterloo.
TO-DAY'S MARATIION,
To-day F. Ledward, J. Lynch and R. Scammell will compete in the Wakefield 20-mile road race. Owing to a pulled muscle, M. Devereux has had to retire.
