The English championships at Peterborough last Saturday produced some surprises. Fred Norris, the Northern Counties senior champion, confounded his critics who felt that he would be too old, by finishing 250 yards ahead. Wallasey A.C.'s two entries in this race did not compete.
Wallasey's junior team had a most unsuccessful day, with all the counting members running well below form. Ron Barlow, 6th last year, could do no better than 27th.
ROAD RACES
With the English championships bringing the cross-country season to a close, interest in the sport, for the next few weeks before the track season, is enlivened by several road races. The club's road handicap race will be held from the headquarters, Leasowe Road, next Saturday. Today a training run is to be organised at 3.0 p.m.
The first local track meeting will be at Wavertree Playground on Easter Monday, 2.30 p.m. This graded scratch meeting will be recognised by the A.A.A. for standards at A.A.A., area and county levels. Entries (6d. per event) should be sent to J. C. Rice, closing date Monday, March 23.
