Last Saturday Wallasey Athletic Club members took part in a six-mile road run around Leasowe in preparation for today's 7-mile Waterloo Road Race. This event is a favourite for most athletes in Lancashire and Cheshire and attracts nearly 300 entries.
With last year's team of John Wright, Ron Barlow and Pete White, all in good form, closely chased by Brian Woolford, Tony Townsend and Phil Townsend, the club's prospects seem very bright.
Intending competitors are asked to meet inside Exchange Station by 1-45 p.m. this afternoon.
Youths and boys not travelling to Waterloo will be able to have a run from Club Headquarters under the guidance of coach Bob McCaig and Frank Ledward.
A prize fund has been opened by the club to help to defray the cost of medals and other trophies awarded by the club. Vice president Jim O'Sullivan has started the fund off with a donation of £2 10s, which is gratefully acknowledged. All donations, large or small, are welcome and should he sent, to the treasurer, Mr John Prydderch, 21 Hoseside Road.
The club championships this year are again to be decided on a points system; points to be awarded for attendances and performances throughout the season.
