Wallasey entertained Port Sunlight A.C. at Leasowe Road last Saturday in a friendly match. With small turn-outs, a combined race was held for juniors and seniors, over a 4½ miles course of one lap of the playing field and two laps on Bidston Marshes. Boys and youths had a 2½ miles run.
Ron Barlow, after running off course and being 10 yards down to D. Doyle of Port Sunlight, made up ground in the second lap and in a sprint finish held on to win by a yard. Pete White ran well to improve into third place. Wallasey's other five counters were: 5th, Phil Townsend, 6th Dave White, 9th Jim Johnston, 11th Tony James, 14th Brian Chalton. Wallasey won the team race with 49 points to 56 points.
Mention should be made of John Wright's brilliant win in the 3-mile road race, held in conjunction with the monster meet at Prenton on October 4. It is hoped that John can reproduce this form in the Waterloo Road Race in November.
To-day the club compete in the first of the cross-country league fixtures which takes the form of a 'mob' race to be held at Liverpool Harriers & A.C. headquarters at Woolton, commencing at 3 p.m. All members intending to compete are asked to meet at the Pier Head Bookstall, between 1:30 and 1:45p.m.
