Kevin Mather ran in the mile and the half mile at St. Helens on June 3.
In the mile he finished 5th in 4 mins. 21 secs., and in the 880 he was 6th in 2 mins. 3 secs. The following day at Port Sunlight, he and Ron Barlow fought out a close finish in the 880, Ron winning in 1 min. 58.1 secs, with Kevin 2nd in 1 min. 58.2 secs. - both of these times being personal bests for the half mile. In the 1 mile Ron won quite easily in 4 mins. 24 secs., and Kevin was 4th in 4 mins. 34 secs.
In the Junior mile Phil Townsend showed that his form this season is no flash in the pan, by taking 2nd place in a personal best of 4 mins. 38.8 secs. Bill Morris showed an improvement on recent form in finishing 3rd in his heat in 4 mins. 50 secs. - again a personal best.
In the Junior 880, Brian Chalton returned 2 min. 9.9 secs., still another personal best, to finish 5th. He also finished 6th in the mile. Bob Fullerton continued his improvement with a 2nd place in a 220 heat.
In the field events, Wallasey had only one competitor, which is not good enough if the club hope to rival others on Merseyside soon. But Carl Gee took first place in the shot, with a best ever putt of 36 ft. 3 ins.
